Biography

Robert Hodge is the audio preservation engineer in the Department of Preservation and Conservation, Syracuse University Libraries and has worked with many vintage sound mediums, such as wax and celluloid cylinders, disc recordings of many sizes, speeds, composition and other technical considerations, magnetic media in several different configurations and 16 and 35 mm optical and magnetic film for over 40 years. He has been with Syracuse University as a technician or engineer for approximately 38 years.

Among his achievements is the development of methods of repairing damaged disc and cylinder recordings. Similarly, he developed the idea of repairinig split celluloid cylinders using wax blanks and using a shaving machine as a lathe.
