Syracuse University Library collections include more than 2,575,000 volumes,
12,700 serials, 3.600,00 microforms, 9,000 online and electronic resources,
190,000 maps, 440,000 slides and other graphical materials, as well as
videos, rare books, manuscripts, archives, sound recordings, and other
formats in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
SUMMIT, the web-based online catalog (http://summit.syr.edu/index.html)
includes shared holdings of the SU, SU Law, Martin Luther King, Jr., and
SUNY ESF libraries, and provides links to many other electronic resources,
inlcuding databases and full-text collections. The online catalog is accessible
from outside the Library, but licensing restrictions limit the use of
most databases to SU-affiliated users.
Books, journals, and U.S. government depository publications are shelved
in open stacks. Rare books and manuscripts are located on the sixth floor
of Bird Library. A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Laboratory on
the third floor of Bird offers spatial data sets. In Media Services computers
and multimedia resources are available in support of classroom assignments
and instruction. Media Services also provides services and equipment for
individuals with disabilities. The Belfer Audio Laboratory and Archive
next door contains more than 300,000 historic sound recordings.
